One family’s crises serve as a metaphor for the many troubles facing Greece in this drama. Gena is a troubled woman whose emotional instability makes it hard for her to hold on to a job and look after her children. Gena has just given birth to another son, and her brother Nikitas, a college professor, has decided she’s not capable of handing the additional responsibility. Nikitas wants to adopt the baby and raise him with his daughter Anna, which angers Gena and causes discord among the other members of the family. Meanwhile, her oldest son Stergios struggles with depression and guilt, his brother Thanos has just returned to his home town after a long absence, and Antonis is caught up in the political protests that are taking place all over Thessaloniki. Hora Proelefsis was the first feature film from director and co-screenwriter Syllas Tzoumerkas.
